This is an unexpected problem. Just bought a new HP PC. I
use it in a computer desk with the standard door on the
front which houses the PC.
Unlike my previous ones, this one generates so much heat I
am not sure I can use it during the summer, even with the
air on. the room is a small bedroom, converted into an
office about 12x14 in size.
Is it normal for the new units to put off so much heat?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Putting your computer in a cabinet with a door that is closed is asking for
trouble.

It is normal for AMD. :-) You should have bought a computer that has an
Intel sticker on it.

A quick question for this response. Why would he want to
purchase an inferior product. Athlon is superior in every
way including the ability to easily overclock the
chip.Good luck

having always bought AMD, I can't agree, but that's by the by. I was
shocked to see a bit of video, available on Kazaa, that shows just how much
heat is generated by a CPU in a matter of seconds, 500 degrees or so. Look
under THG.

First-download SiSoft Sandra, free, from download.com. Now you can
check the heat of your CPU, motherboard, etc. You can also do a lot of
other things.
Second-go buy a 3" inch computer fan and install it in your case,
blowing the air out. Cost is under 10.00. Then check your temperature
again and see the difference. I have always for myself and my friends
installed an extra fan to draw of any heat not from only the CPU but
from your hard drive(s). This extra fan lowers the temperature about 10
degrees.
Third-make sure your ribbon cables are not bunched up as to block off
the flow of air. I personally replaced my cables with the new round ones
which do not restrict any air flow. They cost about 10.00 each. :-)
