View Full Version : Least intrusive XP Messenger upgrade

Hi,
I've just had to rebuild a PC and had to do a fresh install of Windows XP
Pro and SP1a.
I now have Windows Messenger 4.7 on the PC and wonder if anyone has any
advice on the least harmful - i.e. does not slow down PC, does not slow down
web browsing or anything - way to upgrade the Windows Messenger?
Is it best to just download the 4.7 add-on components? Or upgrade to a newer
version of WM or even to opt for MSN Messenger?
Thanks,
J.

Greetings John,
The easiest (and recommended) thing to do would be to simply install the latest build on
WindowsUpdate (along with everything else).

And there are no issues reported with that - the Messenger updates? I ask,
having had my previous PC always updated with latest hotfixes and it, a P4
2.0 with 512MB Memory, ended up crawling. Hence, I am a touch more wary now
about every update I install.

Hi John,
Although some people claim that certain Messenger updates caused X problem (usually Messenger
unable to sign in), there are really no real known issues directly caused by a Messenger
update (you can always use System Restore to undo the update as well).
