My girlfriend has a computer on which she has a password.
She has forgotten the password to her windows xp home
edition and can't get into any of her own files, only as a
guest. I've tried to go into control panel and do a
system restore but it is refusing to let me do it probably
because it's in the guest. Please can ypou tell me of a
way around this so that she can get back into her own
password protected files.

Hi,

Boot into Safe mode and logon as administrator (the password should be =
blank), from there she can reset the user password or create a new =
profile and copy the data over.

>Agree with Rick; two ways to boot (start) into Safe Mode:
1. When the the Windows splash starts to appear ( or
before) start tapping the F8 key constantly until the
selection screen appears.

2. The easier way in my opinion; Start/All
Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt/ then type "msconfig"
(less the quotation marks) after the blinking Cursor/ hit
the Enter key on the Keyboard. This will open a window
with a tabbed bar at the top; click the far left one (I
forget the name on the Tab). Then select the Boot Mode you
want. I would suggest Safe Mode with basic drivers &
programs. Then click Ok or whatever it is to get out of
the window. Then shut down and restart. You should then be
in Safe Mode.
