View Full Version : Disk Error Checking

Whenever I perform a disk error checking operation on my C: drive, all works
well until it gets to the end and reboots. At this point instead of going
back into windows it tries to rerun the scan disk, when I press any key to
stop the recheck it just hangs until I use the reset button. When it then
comes up with the Windows terminated abnormally screen I have to select load
last known configuration to get into windows. On my other partitions I have
no problems, can anybody help please.

Thanks in advance.

I presume your C drive is the active drive where the windows operating =
system resides. If yes then you should see the programme suggest =
scheduling the checking process for the next time the computer is =
started. The programme will then run before windows and other programmes =
load. When Error Checking ( Chkdsk ) has completed the computer should =
then finishing loading and you should be presented with the Desktop.

Does this happen?

Gerry,

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately it is exactly as you say, upto the point
where it completes the chkdsk at this point instead of presenting the
desktop it goes back into the chkdsk routine giving me the option to cancel
by pressing any key, if I press a key the system just hangs and I have to
reboot and receive the windows terminated screen if I don't press a key it
just starts the chkdsk all over again. At the terminated screen if I choose
load windows normally we also go back into the chkdsk routine, so I have to
select last known working configuration to get in. Any more ideas would be
appreciated.
