View Full Version : Strange Files Appear on Desktop

In the past few weeks, on several occasions an unknown file icon has
appeared on my desktop at boot-up. Right clicking the file and looking at
properties doesn't give me a clue as to the origin of the file. The file
type is ~, which is no help at all. Deleting the file apparently causes no
problems, but I'd sure like to know what might be causing this. I've checked
for viruses and there are none.
Does anyone have a clue as to what is going on?

Kindly find herewith a solution to your problem. I found it in this
newsgroup, courtesy of Kelly. Good luck and good day phil

Hi Thomas,

This happens when you make a change and/or view the Address Book. You can
either rename it with a .dbx extension or delete it. It came about from
the updates numbered: 331923 and 330994. MS is aware of the issue and are
working on it.

Thanks Phil, Unfortunately, I don't have either 331923 or 330994
installed. I do have 331953 installed. Do you think that may be the culprit
and Kelly made a typo?
