I recently reformatted my harddrive and reinstalled XP
Home Edition on my pc. Everything worked fine for 4
days, then yesterday afternoon I got home from work,
booted up the computer, and immediately noticed a big
slowdown. I made sure their were no programs running in
the background. I brought up the Task Manager and saw
that even though no programs were running, there were
dozens of processes going, and my cpu usage ranged from
70-85%, continuous!
The only software I installed was a brand new edition of
Microsoft Works Suite 2003, and the pc ran okay after
that. I hadn't updated my XP yet, so today I'm
downloading service packs and updates (set it up for huge
download before I left for work... I hate 56k dialup, but
it's all I have access to).
