I have three machines sharing a cable connection behind a
upnp. Two of the machines use Messenger perfectly--both
voice and video both behind and outside my network and
one of the machines has the exact same symptoms as you.
All three are running XP. Have been on the phone
Microsoft technical support for two hours and they
haven't solved it yet. And my problem is on a brand new
machine that has had nothing but Office and the xp
updates loaded onto it basically. So now they want to
have me set up a parallel directory and then add the
Windows updates back one by one to see which one breaks
messenger. Seems like alot of bull to me though,
especially when I get on this board and see a number of
people having identical problems. But the people I have
dealt with act like they have never heard of this problem
but lots of people on this board are complainging about
it so I don't know what is up with that. Seems like a
company with Microsoft's reources could put together some
test machines and duplicate and fix the problem without
me paying them 35 bucks to use me as a guinea pig when I
am really busy and don't have time for another three
hours with Microsoft technical support to pay them to
have me figure out the problem for them. What a
company. I just want the software to work without me
having to do anything but use it. Thats why they call
use End Users. I am an end user not a beta tester. Its
like selling a car and advertising its features but when
you get the car none of them work or you have to pay
extra to get them to fix what they sold you in the first
place.

Has this machine ever worked for voice and video? What version of messenger
are you using on it? Do you have the Internet Connection Firewall turned on?

I had two brand new machines built the same week. They
were brought home with xp loaded on them and they each
were put on the internet and updated with windows
update. Then installed office and norton antivirus and
thats about it. So since I have had them for two weeks
one has worked fine and the other hasn't. These machines
have different configurations. One is AMD and the other
is intel. Both were clean installs of XP home edition.
They are both sharing an internet connection. I have one
other desktop and a wireless laptop. I can voice and
video conference with the laptop and the AMD machine but
not the intel machine.

The problem appears to be the intel nic card I have.
Lots of people who are complaining about this problem
have intel nic cards and when those that can roll them
back to previous driver versions video and voice is
restored. My problem is I have a brand new machine and
have no previous drivers to roll back to. Intel gave me
the latest version of the drivers but they don't work
either. Can you guys tell Intel that they got a bad nic
card driver please?
