View Full Version : LSASS.exe is eating all my processor time when networking enabled

I initially thought this was a virus, but have run an up to date check and
come back with nothing.

This is on my 2.4 Ghz laptop -- one day it just started running dogedly slow
(takes about 10 minutes to boot up), takes 5 minutes to launch outlook, etc,
etc... so I checked the task manager and LSASS.exe is taking up 60-99% of
the cpu at any given time.

Full Virus check -- Clean (took a looooooooooooong time cause computer was
so slow)
Safe Mode -- Computer runs quick -- no problem
Safe Mode with Networking -- Same as regular mode, slow as molasses

This is WinXP Professional, not running anything overly fancy - I use the
machine for development (I'm a Computer Science student). I've installed
tons of software in the last 2 weeks (the machine is brand new), but nothing
immediately before the problems started.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, I really don't know what to do.

Ther are 15 items associated with LSA. Go to MS KB and read. One may apply
to you. (Local Security Athority)?

I read and evaluated those -- doesn't look like any of them apply,
unfortunately. Any other ideas? I tried uninstalling a couple of recent
service packs -- no luck.

Really desperate here!
