My windows messenger(windows XP professional) is
crashing. It used to work one week ago, but I do not what
happened suddenly that it has stopped working. It wont
even start. When I launch the application I get the
following message...

Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

and this is what I get from the Event Viewer log

Faulting application msmsgs.exe, version 4.7.0.2009,
faulting module rtcdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.1106, fault
address 0x0000a3cb.

Somebody please help me solving this problem.

Greetings Arun,

The quickest way to fix this would just be to use System Restore to restore your computer
back to a week ago. To do so, click Start, then Help & Support, then "Undo changes to my
computer using System Restore" and then go through the wizard.

Thanks Jonathan, I found the fix for the problem.
Actually I had the problem with my windows media player
also. It would not play anything and when I try to open a
file it was giving the message "The specified module
could not be found". And both these problem startd at the
same time. So , I Insatlled new version of DirectX 9.0a
and both of my problems are gone.
Now my messenger and media players both works with no
problem at all.
I still do not understand why did the problem start. But
it surely startd after installing the latest update from
the microsoft web site.
