View Full Version : Messenger 4.7 fails to start, msmsgs.exe pegs CPU

Windows Messenger is failing to start properly ever since
installing 4.7 on WinXP. The msmsgs.exe process starts,
but the app never loads in the system tray. Instead, my
hard drive just churns continuously and my CPU is pegged
in the msmsgs.exe process.

Has anyone else seen this? My computer is un-usable
until I terminate the Messenger process in Task Manager.
I have un-installed and re-installed, and the same
behavior occurs. I have had this same bug occur on two
PCs.

Greetings JPK,

Have you installed DirectX 9 (or a game/demo might have)? If so, you'll need to upgrade to
DirectX 9a to solve this problem:
