Hiya folks,
i just have a very strange problem. I had a very old computer, I think with
Win98 First edition and a very old Outlook or Outlook Express (do not know,
which version, it must have been before OUE 5 or 6. In any case, I upgraded
this computer to Windows XP, and the actual versions of Outlook and Outlook
Express, but now I cannot read any more my old e-mail files (all with
extension *.idx,
*.mbx) and Outlook or Outlook Express does not let me import those files, so
I loose gigatons of old e-mails, mostly with pics of nice girls of old
times. Can anybody help me, to get my old e-mail transferred to the actual
version of OUE? I will be thankful for the rest of my life!
regards
Mike

You need to determine whether your former e-mail program was Outlook or
Outlook Express. Despite the similarity in the name, the two are very
different programs and store email in very different ways.
You also need to decide which program - Outlook or Outlook Express - you
wish to use now.
In general, you 'import' email into these programs (see the File menu).
For help with Outlook Express, try "Inside Outlook Express" at

Hello Mike,
According to the files you mentioned (.idx and .mbx), it seems you are
using Outlook Express. Let's check if you performed the correct steps when
trying to import the files:
1. Look on the system for the following file types, *.WAB , *.IDX ,
*.DBX, (take note of the location of these files)
2. Now go into Outlook Express and choose File, Import Choose, Messages ,
then Choose the type of product you are importing from (e.g. Microsoft
Outlook Express 4)
3. Then the Wizard will ask you where the files are, you then put in the
path where the system can find the files (This is the location you wrote
down)
4. The wizard will now import all the messages and you are finished.
