View Full Version : Net Send failure

Hi all,

I'm having problems with a computer in my LAN. It doesn't receive any
messages sent via the "net send" command. It has no problem sending
messages, and it responds to ping. Actually, it's functioning
perfectly well within the Domain (sharing, printint, etc.), but it
just doesn't receive net send messages. If I try, I get the following
error:

"The message alias could not be found on the network.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2273."

Some more info:
- The messenger service is started.
- NetBios over TCP is enabled
- TCP/IP NetBios helper is enabled

Furthermore, if I use "net name" in the command line it states "the
list has no entries". If I try to manually add an entry (i.e. "net
name /add whatever) it says "entry added", but if I use "net name"
again it still replies with "the list has no entries".

Any ideas?

TIA :-)

have you checked that these services are running and set to automatic.
Plug and Play, remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Workstation
also is the computer name one word? If not, try the "computer name" format
using the quotation marks

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, all the services you mentioned are up & running. The computer's
name is pc-operator, and it doesn't repsond to the Net Send command,
even when I place the computer name in quotation marks.

I'm really stumped as to why this doesn't work.
Any brilliant ideas?

TIA :-)
