How do I get the stupid email alerts to stop when I am on
the welcome screen logging in to my personal user
account. It might be nice if it was accurate but it says
I have new Hotmail messages even though I just checked my
Hotmail inbox and there werent any. I think it might have
something to do with Messenger or Passport.

Greetings Justin,
Do you mean the actual # of e-mails on the welcome screen? If so, to turn off the unread
e-mails on the welcome screen, download the TweakUI powertoy:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp (see on the right).
After you have TweakUI installed, click Start, All Programs, Powertoys for Windows XP, and
choose TweakUI for Windows XP. In the TweakUI window, on the left, click the '+' next to
Logon, and choose Unread Mail. Uncheck 'Show unread mail on Welcome screen' and click OK.
