View Full Version : Frequent Video Crashes

This is a problem I have only started to have recently. When attempt to
watch a video file, doesn't matter what format or what program I use IE
windows media player, after a minute or so the program crashes and windows
asks me to send a problem report. When I restart my computer I can play
video's for awhile but it not long until it starts crashing (again it
doesn't matter much what software I use, although the ones with less
overhead don't crash as much) the more videos I play the more frequent the
crashes(meaning that it crashes quicker, it starts that if the file is an
hour long then it may crash once during playback, but over time it becomes
more frequent till it gets to the point where it crashes almost instantly
every time I try to play a video). As I said this has only been a problem
recently as in the past only certain video players would crash, IE windows
media player crashes the most, but a player such as zplayer never crashed,
but now they all crash, leading me to believe that the problem lies
somewhere else.

I forgot to add my system specs:
Abit KG7-Raid With Athlon XP 1800+
2X 512MB Corsair REG ECC
Gainward Geforce4 Ti4600 with latest Nvidia Drivers 44.03
system drive is a IBM Deskstar 45GB 7200PRM (E:)
IBM Deskstar 45GB 7200RPM (C:)
WD1200BB (G:)
WD1200BB (L:)
Plextor PlexWriter 40/12/40A
Generic Mat****a DVD
Antec 400W

And for what my system is currently running
Norton Anti-Virus
EXPERtools (video card overclocking utility)
PowerStrip (forces my refresh rate to 75hz, never caused a problem in the
past)
Style XP
Trillian PRO
Nvidia Media Center
ActiveSync
Daemon Tools
NetLimiter (allows me to control the bandwidth usage of certain programs)

You tried an updated driver from the video card or chip manufacturer's
WEBsite? If problems arise, ROLL BACK to the prior drivers.

If you are unfamilar with this process, it is best left to someone who is.

yes as I stated I have the latest Nvidia Drivers installed. As for the chip
set drivers no I haven't updated them recently(been a few months) that
didn't even come to mind as like I said this has only started happening
recently and XP has been running just fine up till now on the current
drivers. But I will look into it, possibly there was an "Updated" version
of the drivers in Windows Updates(some times there is), and those drivers
are hosed, wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks for the feedback,
