I use to use Mcafee, I installed it by the cd, My
daughter was supposed to uninstall it with the cd before
I got Norton, she put the cd in the computer and said it
was uninstalled, seems she just disabled it, I still have
the icon in my task bar, when I went to add/remove to try
to uninstall it again, it tells me I can't because it is
missing the components. I want it out, how can I do it.
Thanks in advance for any help, Joyce

type msconfig at start button - run - look over at startup - find the mcafee
startup files there (if there are any) and unselete them.

It may be easier to reinstall it, then uninstall it properly using the
add/remove programs in the control panel or the McAfee uninstaller.

Hi Joyce!
Well this may not be what you want to hear! But what you
have to do not only do you have to unistall McAfee
programs but you must go to regedt32.exe (Registery edit)
and remove all instances of McAfee from the registry.

Before you make an attempt to do so I recommend you back
up your registry 1st. Next, run regedt32.exe and do a
search for McAfee. YOU MUST COUNT EVERY INSTANCE OF THE
PROGRAM 1ST!!!!!. Then go back in and delete each
instance. If it's a line item off a branch then delete
the line item. If it's a branch then delete that branch.

There should be around 34-38 entries in your registry.
You must get every one of them. After you have
uninstalled and removed all entries of Mcafee from the
registry you can install Norton.

The reason this is done is both Norton and McAfee do not
wnat you run the competitors software. If you install
Norton W/O removing the registry items your system will
more than likely hang up if not crash all together.

It will not harm your system to look at the registry
items after you uninstall McAfee to see what remains. I
recommend you find someone who is qualified and knows how
to do registry editing.

Best luck!
Bruce
