How do I enter a number that begins with zero and have it
display correctly i.e. 0123?

Lisa,
What program are you using? Generally, you can accomplish this by placing a
decimal point in front of the number or in most programs you can format the
cell as text and it will work.

Excel. However, it must be entered as a value and not
text for calculation purposes.

Lisa,
There is no whole number that begins with 0, other than 0 (which is
sometimes questionable). See the following site;
http://mathworld.wolfram.com/WholeNumber.html
Therefore, I don't believe you will be able to convince Excel that it should
change behavior and go against true mathematic principles.
