View Full Version : Using Sony DV cam with Messenger

I am trying to use my Sony Handycam to videochat with
people, but when I try to set up the Audio Tuning Wizard,
which also sets up the camera, it says that the camera is
in use by another program even though it is not. I have
it hooked up through a DV cable. Any help is greatly
appreciated.

That's odd, when I connect my Sony DCR-TRV30 via Firewire, I am able to see
video from it in the Audio Tuning Wizard - but it won't actually work in a
video chat (no video is displayed).

Greetings June,

If you don't have Windows XP Service Pack 1 already installed, install this patch:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;Q310507

Then go into Windows Messenger and try going through the Audio (and Video) Tuning Wizard
again (click Tools, then Options, then Audio Tuning Wizard). If you get an error (device in
use, etc.) then this probably won't work (it doesn't work with every camera on the market
unfortunately).

Jonathan,

Thank you for your quick response. You have helped me
many a time. The thing I find strange is that I had it
working with CUSeeMe. And it also detects it in the
control panel. I am getting the service pack, so
hopefully that will help. Thanks again.
