I'm trying to install Windows XP Home w/ SP1 onto my
newly reformatted computer, and after the first part is
done, when it is installing devices, i get a stop error
0x00000024 in ntfs.sys, and the computer restarts.

The computer is a 1.7 Ghz Celeron with 512mb PC2700 DDR
RAM and a RADEON 64mb DDR graphics card. I tried looking
up the srop error but I couldn't find anything on it.
Thanks for any suggestions for getting Windows installed.

Hi Jeff,

Sounds like you may have some problems with your System Partition. You
mentioned that the computer is newly reformatted, did you use any HD program
to format the drive? I have seen 3rd party disk partitioning and formatting
software cause similar errors in the past. If this is the case, I would
recommend reformatting, using the XP CDROM.

At any rate, the KB article below gives you some steps to try.

I found this on Technet under W2K Professional, Product docs, Getting
started, Appendix B (or in otherwords buried).

Stop Errors 0x00000023 and 0x00000024
Stop error number:

(0x00000023) or (0x00000024)

Descriptive text:

FAT_FILE_SYSTEM or NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM

Usual cause:

A problem occurred within Ntfs.sys (the driver file that allows the
system to read and write to NTFS drives).

To troubleshoot Stop error 0x00000023 or 0x00000024
1.. Run the system diagnostics supplied by your computer manufacturer,
especially hardware diagnostics.
2.. Disable or uninstall any antivirus, disk defragmentation, or backup
programs.
3.. Check for hard drive corruption by running Chkdsk /f at the command
prompt, and then restart the computer.
Then I remembered Jims site and found a better start for you.

look on the left panel for the 24 error.
