Hi everyone,

I could sure use some help from all of you smart people out there because I
am kinda stumped.

I had been having problems with my PC because it kept rebooting every time I
would select an account to log into from my Windows XP Account Screen. It
would do this no matter which account I would choose.

To correct this error, I put my Windows XP Professional CD in the drive and
thought I would perform an upgrade to see if it would correct any of the
problems I have been having.

The upgrade has been nothing but disk problems since i started, but Windows
would repair it and go on.

I have finally come to an error that won't go away:

the error says, "Registry Error" from the upgrade screens but says, "load
needed dlls for kernel" from boot screen when I attempt to boot into "Safe
Mode".

I reseached this error in the KB and found a reference to a Win Nt error,
but I am unable to perfrom any of these actions. Here is the linkto the KB
article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;164448

I am totally stumped and could use any help you all could provide.

My MAIN goal is to be able to recover the files on the disk (images,
contacts, doc, etc...). Would I be better to go and buy a new hard drive,
install windows from scratch on it, then put my old drive in as data drive
so that I can get the data?

Thanks,
Rick

Never, never upgrade over a problem. It's the number two rule for upgrading.
(The number one rule is: backup.)
