Update 811493 problems

After installing 811493 problems with Scanner program and
other applications experiencing uncommanded shut downs.
Discovered from this newsgroup that update should be
removed - have done so. Reinstalled Scanner program same
symptoms still, even Notepad shuts down unexpectedly.
Any recommendations please - I don't really have a week
of the time necessary to reformat disk and reinstal
everything.

Try System Restore;
Start/All Programs/Accessories/system Tools/System Restore.
Choose a date/time before issue started.

The issue you are describing are not typical of the old 811493.
Additionally, if you installed 811493 after 29 May 2003, you have the
new version and there are no real problems with the newer version of
811493.

Thta is correct... I had problems with the old 811493,
but uininstalled it.... the problem was that the system
was very SLOW and lagged... I did a system restore and
all was ok.. I noticed that the 811493 had subsequently
been moved to 'recommended' updates ... NOW since the
28th of May, there has been a revision and it has been
put back into the 'critical updates' section... I
installed the new revised update, and ALL IS FINE.. THE
UPDATE CAUSES ME NO PROBLEMS SINCE IT HAS BEEN REVISED...
