View Full Version : XP cannot recognize this partition?

Hello,
When boot off the install cd and try to re-install XP I get the message:
XP cannot recognize this partition?
Why do I get this messgae? And why is my only course of action to delete
the partition? There's nothing wrong with the partition that I can think of
since I'm currently running XP off of it. There are no disk errors nor is
there anything wrong with the drive (Done a surface scan on it with
Norton........ looooooooong.)
Is there any way to fix this so that I don't have to delete the entire
partition just to reinsall XP?
Thanks,
Jeff

You may have partition boundary errors that prevent the partition as being
seen as a competent partition. To be 100% certain of your installation, I
would delete the partition during the install process. Then I would create a
new one and format it as NTFS. If not, a problem may rear up a couple of
months from now to bite your ass!

Well, yeah, I don't have any choice right now but to do just that. It just
sucks to have to back up everything just to reinstall XP. And that
partition is currently formated as NTFS.
Thanks,
Jeff

Happened to me once or twice over the years. There is no repairing it that I
have ever found out!
