Ok, this is absolute MURDER!

I installed DirectX 9.0a (straight from Windows Update
this morning). Then I rebooted. Then I installed the
newest Windows Messenger for Windows XP v4.7 (sorry I
don't know the build number - it's whatever version is
downloadable Right Now though)

You can see the delay when Messenger first starts. The
expanding "radar/rain drop" looking graphics that flash
while Messenger is signing in appear 1/2 way, then pause,
then expand to their full size, then pause, etc.

When I double click a contact, the Conversation Window
opens. There is a 2-3 second delay before my text appears
though. Again, I have scads of RAM, free disk space, etc.

I realize this just might be a lost cause, but does anyone
have ANY ideas what causes this delay? ALL of my other
programs run without delay. Messenger on the other hand,
tells me to go fish. :-)

Hi Kevin,

Out of pure and absolute curiosity, do you have a Linksys router?

Also, if you bring up the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del, or right-click on the Taskbar and
choose Task Manager) before you start Messenger, click the Processes tab, then click the CPU
heading twice (to list all CPU intense processes at the top), then start Messenger and open a
conversation while watching to see what processes use up the CPU time.

Messenger should take over a bit (msmsgs.exe) while starting, but after that, should level
off.
