I used to be able to send and receive files
such as pictures (.JPG) through MS Messenger 4.x.
When I got DSL and a LinkSys Router so Me and
my son could share the DSL line me ability
to send files through MS Messenger doesn't work anymore.
I can "Recieve" files but not send.

Anybody ran into thos and have a detailed solution or
point me to a detailed solution that works?

Thank you
Pete Carr

Upgrading to MSN Messenger v5, and the soon to be available v6 will most
likely help.

You have a NAT problem with the DSL and perhaps more with the Router. That
is the problem.

Yes NAT in my router is the problem but
for Gods sake there must be millions of people
out there by now who have broadband and use a router
to share the connection etc.

Seems like Microsoft would get so many complaints
that thay would make messenger work with these
configurations. I mean really...

Greetings Pete,

In order to send files through a router via Messenger, you'll need to use MSN Messenger 5
(which has UPnP file transfer support) and upgrade your Linksys router to its latest firmware
(to support UPnP).

To do so, go to:
http://www.linksys.com/download
After installing the latest firmware, depending on what Linksys router version you have, you
may need to go into the router configuration, password tab and toggle UPnP on. Then reboot
and install MSN Messenger 5 (the only currently available version of Messenger with UPnP file
transfer):
http://messenger.msn.com/download/download.asp?client=1.

After you've done all this, you should be able to send files (no further configuration
necessary).

UPnP does not work, at least with Linksys routers. And I
don't care what MS and Linksys say. VOIP and Broadband
applications will not catch on until we resolve this...
