i ran msconfig and selected services and have the following, among others,
running

Epson Printers Status Agent 2 Seiko Epson
GEARSecurity_Backup Gear Software
Netropa NHK Server Unknown
ptssvc Unknown
SmartLinkService
Virtual Cd v4 Security service (SDK - version) H+H Software GmbH

questions

1/ do i just un-check the box to stop these working
2/ if i do 1, can i re-enable them
3/ apart from Epson, how do i find out what programs they are from

Hi Mr. Do!,

Point 1.

Msconfig is not the proper place to manage Services.
Go to Administrative tools / Services to manage Services.

Point 2. Unless you are positive that turning off a service is an
acceptable thing to do in your system. Than don't.

Point 3. There is more information available in the Services utility
including which other services may need these services to be available.
Right click a service and sellect Properties than look at Dependencies.
Beyond that a search might reveal much information.

You are playing with fire. Be carefull or you will be burnt.
