Visual Effects - Not Functioning

Hi,

This request is probably opposite to what everyone wants, to shut off the
visual effects.

My problem is that even when all the options for visual effects are turned
on in Windows XP Professional, none of them work. No shadows, no animated
menus, nothing.

I cannot seem to find anything on the net that referrences this.

Anyone have any ideas?
