View Full Version : Messenger Updates just disappeared

Hi,

I did a fresh install of XP Pro a few weeks back and have the basic 4.7
version of Windows Messenger on it.

Several times, when I have gone to Windows Update, I have been informed that
there are updates to Windows Messenger available. However, I have not
downloaded these either manually or automatically.

But, going to Windows Update yesterday and today, I now find that any
Windows Messenger updates are no longer listed as needed BUT I still have
the original 4.7 WM on my PC.

Hmm, anyone else experienced this? Is this a sign that a newer WM version is
about to make an appearance?

J.

Greetings J,

Windows Messenger 5 isn't going to make an appearance just yet, it may just be a
WindowsUpdate problem, or perhaps you do have the updated version (Windows XP Pro comes with
Windows Messenger 4.0 -- unless you've installed Service Pack 1, then it is 4.7).

If you really want to upgrade to the latest version, you can always do so at:

It is 4.7 but interestingly many of the functions I used to have on my old
WM, not MSN Messenger, have disappeared such as being able to go directly to
my Hotmail from within WM.

Hi J,

That feature was removed in Windows Messenger 4.6 in favor of using the MSN Add-In instead:
