View Full Version : Can't start voice conversation with SMC 7004VBR router
ms

I have a ADSL connection and works fine. I can use my Window messenger 4.7
to do instant message, voice and video conversation.
I recently bought the SMC 7004VBR Route and successfully set up with the CD
came with the router, the connection can be established and everything looks
normal. However, I can send and receive instant messege by Windows Messenge
but cannot start the voice conversation with other Win Messeger users. But I
can start talking between 2 computers connected directly to the same router.
I am using Win XP Pro SP1. Please help

Greetings,
In order to use the voice/video features of Messenger that you described below the NAT
(router in this case) needs to support either some type of built-in Application Layer Gateway
(ALG) for Messenger or have Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) support.
The 7004VBR does have UPnP support, but you'll probably have to upgrade to the latest version
of the firmware from the SMC website:
http://www.smc.com/drivers_downloads/library/7004VBR_FWv123.zip (there's a text file with
detailed instructions in the zip).
Also note that after you upgrade the routers firmware, you'll need to reboot in order for
UPnP to take effect in all applications (Messenger).

Thank you very much. Successfully upgrade the firmwire to 1.23 and turned
UPnP on, However, the voice conversation is still not possible

Hi,
It's possible that the problem is on your contacts' side, do you happen to know if they're
able to have a voice conversation with others?
