I recently (about a month ago) built my own system which all rests on
an Asus A7N8X mobo. It was working fine for a couple weeks, until it
warmed up a little in my apt and then I started getting random
power-offs which I later attributed to the COP circuit on this board
which will power off your box when the CPU temp gets above a certain
threshold. So I took the case off, put the heatsink back on correctly
with some thermal compound and problem resolved. Now when I power on
and boot from the hard disk with my OS (Win XP Prof.) it recognizes
and intializes everthing and then pops up the "We apologize for the
inconvience.." Windows message asking me if I want to boot to Safe
Mode, Normal etc. When I attempt any of these choices the system locks
up. Screen never changes, no beeps, nothing. Now when I attempt to
boot from my Windows XP CD it enters the Windows Setup blue screen
itializes all the drivers and eventually says "Windows is now
starting.." or "Windows is now loading.." at the bottom of the blue
screen, but then locks up again! It is so close but I cant figure out
what is keeping it from starting windows. When troubleshooting my
overheating problem I did reset the BIOS if that has anything to do
with it. Also attempting to boot from my mobo or hard drive cds dont
do much else. Everthing in the BIOS seems ok. Any help would be much
appreciated.
