I have just purchased a new pc which has XP. My daughter
used the pc to sign in to Messenger. Every time I switch
on the computer I start receiving messages for her. How
can I stop this happening, I do not want to use this
feature.

simple, sign out then re-sign in with your own hotmail username & password.

Greetings George,
To accomplish this, click the Start Button, then click the Control Panel. Then, click User
Accounts in the Control Panel. Select your account name, and then on the left side of the
screen, under Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network Passwords'. In the window that opens,
click the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click 'Remove'. She'll then have to type in
her login and password when she wants to sign-in, and it won't automatically connect.
