View Full Version : MSN Messenger problems!!!

Hello everyone!

I have a few problems with my MSN Messager which I'd like to get some help!
I am running Windows XP Professional and MSN Messenger Version 5.0
(5.0.0544).

1. Everytime I use my hotmail.com account to sign in to this MSN Messenger,
it signed me in automatically without giving me the option to type in my
password. I tried everything I could think of but still don't know how I can
disable this 'auto password saving?' feature?

2. Whether I sign in from my PC or from my office PC (only one of the two is
running at any time), everytime after sigon in, one or two minutes later, I
always get the message "You have been signed out of .NET Messenger Service
because you signed in at another location", and I was signed off from the
MSN Messenger automatically (while I was still chatting with someone).
What's the problem here? I didn't signed in at another location!

Thanks,
James

And no, I am not running any Norton Anti-Virus application, by the way.

@news01.bloor.is.net.cable.rogers.com:

hmmmmm...

answer to question 1

ummmm...i'm too sure you can turn off the auto-password feature, by
default messenger is setup to auto-log in as soon as you dial-in or go
online, you can turn this feature off, howeer, its in the settings in
messenger. Thats the only option you can use to turn off auto-password.

answer to question 2

hmmmmm...yes.

strange this.

either some one has gained acces to your office pc, or they have worked
out your hotmail password and are using it at the same time as you, or
as a stab in the dark, you might have been hacked by someone.

ummmm...you could have forgotten to log-out before you leave the office,
or forgotten to shut-down messenger, is your office pc left on when you
leave??

Greetings James,

1. To stop this, just turn off the automatic login -- click the Start Button, then click the
Control Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the Control Panel. Select your account name, and
then on the left side of the screen, under Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network
Passwords'. In the window that opens, click the Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click
'Remove'.

2. See Jason's reply to you here, but also, do you have Windows Messenger still installed?
Something might be loading it and causing it to log you in, and since you have your password
saved, it uses your default account. See #1 here to remove the saved password, which will
also solve this problem (if this in fact the issue).

Followed the steps to the letter, and it did work! Thanks.

At home running Windows XP Professional with SP1, I removed MSN Messager and
re-installed Windows Messenger (Version 4.7.2009) hoping I can solve this
problem. And as you predicted, after I removed the Passport.Net\* passport
in #1 above I have not see this auto-log-me-off happen. Thank you again.
