View Full Version : InCD makes CD-drives disappear

After installing InCD from Nero on a windowsxp pro computer the DVD-ROM and CD-R drives were no longer visible. In the control panel both devices were given a ! to indicate a driver problem. The required drivers were there, hower. System restore to an earlier state did not solve the problem.
Instead I did a full windows reinstall.
Before creating this problem for a second time: is there anyone who knows what has gone wrong and how I could have solved this problem?
Thanks,

I found the answer. DirectCD which I deinstalled before was to blame:
I recently upgraded my drive to an Asus 5224 and switched my software from DirectCD to InCD. Since the switch I have had nothing but problems. I read all of the posts here for InCD fixes but it still did not work. I finally found the annoying remains Roxio left behind.
After following complete uninstall directions found here, I couldn't understand while I still one Roxio driver left, cdralw2k.sys (using Nero's Infotool). I tried to rename it to .rox extension but my CD drives disappear on reboot. I searched M$ Knowledge base and found this tidbit, article kb 314060 http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;314060.
Basically, if I want to completely remove cdralw2l.sys service I have to also check(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} and remove cdralw2l.sys from the upperfilters. For a more complete check the support article at M$.
Since removing that last annoying bit of Roxio's mess, InCD has been working smoothly without any hiccups. I am using Verbatim 16x-24x US-RW with much success. I hope this helps someone fix their InCD head aches and thanks for everyones helpful advice here.
