Hi,

Does Windows messenger require the user to have a
passport id/account? or can it be configured
to work with in a windows domain and authenticated using
windows accounts?

Thanks,
Sankar

Greetings Sankar,

You can use Windows Messenger locally, but it requires either an Exchange IM Server to be set
up on the network, or a SIP-based Communications Server (like the upcoming RTC Server from
Microsoft). Otherwise, yes, you do need a Passport account (and internet access).

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for your reply but I am not sure whether this will
work out since I am planning to use Exchange server 2003:

1 - Exchange IM server has been removed from Exchange
server 2003.

2. RTC Server is only in the beta stages.

So, in this case, Can I use Windows Messenger locally
within a windows domain ?

Thanks,
Sankar

Hi Sankar,

In this case, no, it'll need internet connectivity and public passport accounts to function.
