I helped my Aunt setup her passport on the same version
of Windows Messenger on her computer. We connected for a
video conversation, but only I could see and hear her,
and she could not see or hear me on her computer. We
both have high speed internet through the cable company,
both have new Dell computers. She has Windows XP Home
Edition and a Creative Webcam, and I have Windows XP
Professional with a Logitech Webcam. All I know is that
both microphones and cameras are tuned, and the computers
display the images locally. Also, after setting up her
passport and trying a reboot to fix the issue, her
computer displayed an error "Cannot display video mode"
or something like that. Additional reboots did not
produce the same error again. How can we fix this so we
can see each other? Help!!!

I suggest trying MSN Messenger 6.0.

I think your problem may be the same as the one we encountered on a
Dell 4600 with Intel Pro VE integrated network card.
Go to your control panel > network connections, and double click the
network connection you use. Click "properties" and see if "QoS Packet
Scheduler" service is listed. If it is, then take the check mark out
and click "OK". This should enable you to transmit voice in Messenger
now. Apparently there is some conflict with the Intel network adapter
and the QoS service. In most cases the QoS service is not needed
especially for machines not on a network. You can read more about it
here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q316666
Good Luck
