View Full Version : Internet Connection Sharing

I am trying to make video conferencing with my family. We are both using
ADSL, but at my family's end, there are two computers. They are using
internet connection sharing. How can they configure their internet
connection sharing settings so that any of them can get voice/video
conferencing on MSN Messenger 6 to work? Only the main computer with the
direct connection to the internet works using both voice and video. However,
my dad's pc which is not on direct connection to the internet, does not
allow voice chat.. only video.
By the way, the main PC is using Windows 2000 professional. My dad's pc is
using windows XP professional.

Do you mean the ICS machine is Win2k pro? As I recall there are some issues
with Win2k ICS. It's coded up a bit differently from the XP ICS such that
messenger a/v doesn't work well behind it. Your dad's setup should work if
he upgrades the main machine to XP.
Are both sides using MSN Messenger 6?
When you say it allows only video, I take it you are pressing the webcam
button? That goes through a different channel than the audio. Specifically,
if a direct connection can't be formed, it will go through a server.

Win2K ICS in not UPnP enabled so Messenger will not be able to open ports
automatically. That said I have no experience with running Messenger 6
behind even XP ICS.
