Hi I need help with 4.7 windows Messenger.
I had no probs with it for years but in the last few days
since I went ADSL Broadband I cannot voice chat with
friends.
However If I knock off the Windows fire wall it works
fine.
So I need to know how I make it work with the firewall on.
I already did Johnathans 14 firewall settings months ago
and they are still there, I have checked them out and all
seems ok on that score.
So please can any one help to get me back up to chatting
with the wall on?

hmmm...
there is a setting in the firewall you have to knock off to make voice
work.
start by unticking all options in the firewall, and then tick one at a
time, and try accessing voice, keep ticking one at a time, trying voice
access until you get no voice access, then that should the setting to
untick in the firewall.
got it??
weird i know but do try it.

This is a real pain but it will work. Do all of the stuff on this page and it will work for you.

>Hi thanks for your suggesstions. Sorry Jason and the
other reply above yours, I tried both suggestions and
neither would work. I unticked every thing that was
ticked.
The first suggestion was already in my pc as I
explained, and working before adsl broadband was put in.
However I redid them just in case. Those settings are for
sending files and pics not chatting. It says I need 14 in
all but when I try to enter the first one 1863 it will
not let me do it and never has,it says this 1863 is being
used by another port. But all worked ok even with it
missing.
The strange thing is all works ok with the wall off.
So I must need a new port number put in the firewall to
make it work or something?
Any more suggesstions please?

Greetings,
It's possible that your ADSL provider is "NAT"ing (that is sharing one public IP address with
a number of subscribers) your connection (either with a built-in NAT in the ADSL modem, or on
their side). If this is the case, there probably isn't much you can do (most DSL modems that
support NAT don't support UPnP, which is required in Windows Messenger 4.7 to get "through"
the NAT).
Instead, you might try with the MSN Messenger 6 Preview (in order for it to work it's
"magic", your contacts will need to be running it as well):
