I have a SMC router (7004VBR) which I did download the
latest firmware that is uPnP and NAT compliant. I use
version 4.7 of Messenger and my friend also. We are not
able to setup a video conference, it tries to connect and
is not able to.
For testing, I signed up with Yahoo messenging, and it
worked great, after some learning process... So I am
sure there is some settings I am missing...and would
really prefer to use MSN Messenger than Yahoo one...

Anyone has same issue resolved?

Thanks

Pierre

Greetings Pierre,

Firstly, make sure that UPnP is actually enabled in the router, you can check quickly by
going to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network Connections and looking
for an "Internet Gateway" -- this will be the router. If it's not there, go into your router
configuration and make sure that UPnP is engaged. If you have to turn UPnP on, be sure to
reboot before trying again.

If UPnP is working, make sure both you and your contact have gone through the Audio (and
Video) Tuning Wizard recently. To do so, open up the main Messenger window, click the Tools
menu, then Audio Tuning Wizard.

As well, you might want to make sure that both you and your contact have the Internet
Connection Firewall off. To do so,
click Start, then click the Control Panel. If you're in category view click Network and
Internet connections then click Network Connections. Right click the network/internet
connection, then click Properties. Click the Advanced Tab, and verify that the Internet
Connection Firewall is unchecked.

You also might want to ask your contact if they can connect to anyone else, just to make sure
it's not a problem on their side. The Yahoo Messenger camera features are completely
different then what's in Windows Messenger. However, if you're still encountering problems
after all this, you and your contact might consider trying out MSN Messenger 6, which has
several different connectivity methods that may be able to establish a voice/video session
for you:

Thank you Jonathan,

We actually did not do any special mods into our Router,
as you suggested, but went right away into downloading
the Messenger version 6. And guess what! It worked just
great! Actually I did prefer this interface than the one
from Yahoo...;)
So finally I am glad I was able to finally connect a
video conference with MS messenger.

Thanks for your input.
