I am going CRAZY. For over a month I have been trying to
resolve WHY I(computer2) can not connect my camera or
voice on MSN Messenger 5.0.
The main computer crashed and was wiped, re-loaded with
XP. It is running Norton Utilities...firewall, intenet
security and anti-virus.
We have a LynksysBEFRS41 Ver2 router.
I have altered-with the help of Lynksys Techs, the port
#'s, addresses........
I have diabled Norton, added port 1900 on Norton, and
nothing works. Before the crash, we were fine.
I am out of ideas and I simply don't know where to turn
for help. The poeple as Lynksys said that all my ports
were used up and even though they had me upgrade my
firmware nothing worked.
Ideas welcome. Thanks.

Greetings,
You probably just need to remove the current port forwardings. To do so, click Start, All
Programs, Accessories, Communications, Network Connections. Right-click the "Internet
Gateway" (should be under the Internet Gateway heading) and choose Properties. Choose the
Settings button, click each 'msmsgs' or 'msnmsgr' entry and then choose 'Delete' to each one.
Then close Messenger (right-click the Messenger icon, choose Exit), then restart Messenger.
As well, both of you should run through the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard (click the Tools menu
in the main Messenger window, then Audio Tuning Wizard) just to make sure nothing's changed
there, then try again.

I followed your instructions but I am not finding
the "Internet Gateway." It is not listed.
Incidently, I already did tuning wizards....no help.
Now what?

Hi,
Then Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) is not enabled in your router, which is required for
voice/video capabilities through a router on Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger 4/5.
Firstly, make sure you have the latest firmware installed:
http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp?fwid=1
Then, go into the router configuration (usually http://192.168.1.1, login blank, password
admin, unless you've changed it). Then click the Password tab, and make sure that the toggle
for UPnP Services is on. Then reboot your PC (you should now see the Internet Gateway) and
try a voice/video conversation again.
