After upgrading to XP, I've no longer been able to
transfer files via Messenger or add an account with MSN
Explorer.
I'm using McAfee Firewall and AdSubtract, which acts as a
proxy server. The computer is connected to a QWest DSL
line via a Netgear MA101 wireless device.
AdSubtract's Proxy setting is "Use next-hop HTTP proxy
server."
Under 98 & ME, McAfee's list of items communicating would
include a Netgear entry. Now it lists "Generic Host
Services . . .." which is svchost.exe. That is set
to "fully allow."
Under Generic Host are two lines: Me [ephemeral]-
204.147.80.5[DNS] and Me [ephemeral]-206.81.192.1[DNS]
Both are set to communicate outbound if the protocol is
UDP/IP and the remote port is 53,67, or 1024-5000.
When I look at McAfee's warning log, it is blocking
incoming UDPs and outgoing TCPs and lists the network
adapter as "WAN Miniport (IP).
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
