View Full Version : MSN Messenger 6.0 and online games

Hi
My family and friends downloaded MSN Messenger 6.0 from the Microsoft
website (SetupDl @ 4.65MB) and after installation, we choose a 'buddy' and
then click on the "Launch site" to choose a game but I get a message in
'red' saying "No application information available".
Surely the online games should be working in the Public Preview? Anyone got
any idea why this won't work?

Hi Dave,
In the pre-official version, you had to have a US MSN Passport to play the
games. Looks like that it still is that way. There is a way around it
though- you can "poison" the datafile that tells MSN what country you're in.
I'm assuming you use Win2000 or better.
Open with notepad:
X:\Documents and Settings\<Your username>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN
Messenger\<your email>\configcache.xml
Look for this line:
http://appdirectory.messenger.msn-int.com/AppDirectory/Directory.aspx?L=en-<two
letter code for your country>
and change this to:
http://appdirectory.messenger.msn-int.com/AppDirectory/Directory.aspx?L=en-us
Save the file and restart Messenger.
Now your games will work.

The configcache.xml file seems to reside not in <your email> folder but in a
folder called <1410206491>
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Microsoft\MSN
Messenger\1410206491
Got it working using your suggested "poison".
Thank you Edward.
Jono.

Every passport uses different number.
Not all are <1410206491>
