Transferring Mini Dv to VHS tape

I've just bought a camcorder and everything was going
fine. I recorded some footage, downloaded it onto my pc,
edited using Windows Movie Maker and then recorded back
onto Mini Dv tape. No problems !

However I want to transfer the contents of the Mini Dv to
VHS tape so I can send my video's to friends, family etc.
How do I do this ?

I've been trying for ages and I can't get it to work.
When I connect my camcorder to my TV, I can see the
footage on th AV channel and nothing else. However I
cannot record the AV channel using my video. When I try
this all I record is what's on SKY at the time. It's
frustating that I can see on the screen what I want to
record but have no way of recording it.

Anybody know how I can solve this problem ?
