Computer:
Compaq Evo N1000v (notebook)
Intel Pentium 4 2.00GHz
512MB RAM
System: MS Win XP Pro v 5.1.2600 (No Service Packs)
Problem: Computer randomly powers off
It just turns itself off. No warning, no chance to save data, doesn't
matter what I'm in the middle of, typing, surfing, reading... It powers
down but does NOT sutomatically restart.
There are no other problems with startup/shutdown, no "hanging"...
Notebook was purchased in September, 2002.
Computer is almost always on AC power, and so far, the shutdown has only
been while on AC. Other things on the same power supply are unaffected.
There seems to be no determining factor - about the time I think I know
which combination of programs triggers power off, it does it again under
completely different circumstances. It started happening maybe once per
month or every couple of weeks. Then once per day, and now, multiple
times per day. It does not seem to matter whether the computer has been
on one hour or ten; the shutdowns are random.
Compaq diagnostics tell me the temperature is "Normal", so I do not
think it's overheating. Vents are NOT blocked.
I have tried toggling Advanced | Startup and Recovery | Settings |
Automatically restart - to no effect.
No errors get logged when this happens - regardless of what
error-logging options I have set.
Any ideas?
TIA!!!
