I am trying to delete windows messenger, but the pc will
not allow me. This windows messenger does not show in the
add and remove programs. It is a file folder under
program files. How can I delete this?

Greetings Ross,

To remove Windows Messenger, close down Messenger if it's running (right click the messenger
icon in the notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button,
then click Run and type in (copy-paste if you like):

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,

Hey thanks very much. That worked great. Now if I
download the latest version (the one I deleted was 4.7)
will I have to do the same if I ever want to delete it?

Thanks again,

Ross

Hi Ross,

The latest Windows Messenger is 4.7.2009, and yes, if you want to remove that later, you'll
have to follow the same procedure.

If you mean MSN Messenger 5 or 6, you can remove those from the Add or Remove Programs in the
Control Panel.
