Greetings Tyler,
Windows Messenger will be updated, but not with MSN Messenger's "new features" (although a
few features will carry over into the next version, like TabletPC ink support, better file
transfer support, etc). Features like "custom emoticons" and "display pictures" won't be
seen in Windows Messenger 5.

Hi Tyler,
Actually until MSN Messenger 5 and Windows Messenger 4.7 they were merged (which wasn't all
that long ago).

They were never "merged" as I see it. One product ... one download ...

Hi Tyler,
Actually they were the same product, same download (they were marketed as two). For example,
if you installed MSN Messenger 4 on Windows XP, it would install as Windows Messenger 4. If
you took the Windows Messenger 4 install and tried to install it on Windows 2000, it would
install as MSN Messenger 4. It was the same product, same executable (note, if you're
testing this yourself, the Windows Messenger 4 installer did neglect a few key DLLs which
were already in Windows XP, but you can simply copy them over).
