Dan,
Since you're using FAT32, you might try booting from a Windows 98 boot
diskette, then running the FDISK command. Choose to use large disk support,
then totally delete your existing partition by choosing that option from the
main FDISK menu. You'll want to then recreate the partition by choosing the
option to Create Primary DOS Partition. After that, press Escape, and
you'll be back at the A:\> DOS prompt. Turn off your computer with the boot
disk still in the machine, then turn it back on again. Choose to enable CD
support, then type in format c: /u/s .
Once it's done formatting reboot with the Windows XP CD in your CD drive.
Oh, disable your second hard drive before you try to install XP by removing
the ribbon cable and power plug. Once XP has been installed, you can add
the drive with no problem -- you can format it within Windows.

Absolutely incorrect--XP will install to FAT16, FAT32, or NTFS

Wrong. Never upgraded an older OS with XP? It does install, you know.

Oh, CRAP! I've been running XP Pro on two different FAT32 drives (the
first one died, mechanically) for almost 18 months now. I guess I need
to format and switch to NTFS... :<((
