Hello,

I am curious if somebody can tell me what the difference is between "Windows
Messenger" and "MSN Messenger"?

I am running Windows Xp, Home Edition. I am told that if you have installed
both, you might encounter problems. I also read on following page
http://www.petri.co.il/uninstall_windows_messenger.htm that it is not
recommended to uninstall Windows messenger, while the sales rep who sold me
the laptop, told me to go ahead.....

Thanks for any advice!
ELlen

Greetings Ellen,

There are several differences, Most notably, MSN Messenger 6 has support for display
pictures, custom emoticons, has a different interface, etc. whereas Windows Messenger
supports SIP-based communications services, Exchange IM Server, etc. Which one you use is up
to you, and a matter of personal choice (and based upon your needs and likes), however one
thing to keep in mind, Windows Messenger must still be installed (the sales rep was wrong) on
Windows XP in order for MSN Messenger to retain full functionality (Remote Assistance,
Whiteboard, Application Sharing, etc.).

However, there are no real issues with both installed, even the "pop-up" alert windows in
both clients won't overlap each other.

Hello Jonathan,

thank you for your clear answer... I normally use Yahoo Messenger, to be
honest... but some of my friends use MSN Messenger, so...

I will try MSN messenger and see which version I like best: Windows
Messenger (which I will leave installed, based on your input and what I have
read so far.

Cheerio,
Ellen
