You cannot connect them directly, you will need to go
thro a hub or router, very inexpensive, when you have
them connected this way go to START/my network places/set
a a home or small ofice network, on the pc with xp. the
xp wizard will then set up the settings for you and also
let you make a floppy or cd to set up the me computer,
good luck(ps, if you use a router instead of a hub then
both pcs can be on the web at the same time

No, this isn't correct. With only two computers, you *can*
connect them directly; no hub or router is required. All that's
needed is what's called a "crossover" cable" instead of a
standard CAT5 cable.
