windows messenger keeps disconnecting

can someone please tell me why my windows messenger keeps
losing it's connection. . ill be online, and ill see that
my status is "online", but then ill go to check on it by
trying to change my status, and it will then show that i
can't change my status because im not logged in. . then
it will go ahead and sign me in and ill find that i have
several new emails that came in that i didn't know about
since it thought i was not signed in. .or worse off.. a
buddy of mine will be online and they will tell me how
they were waiting for me but it showed me as offline,
even while i was online. . also. .as im having a
conversation with someone, they will ask, . ."hey. .
you're offline?". . because even as they are talking to
me, my msn signs me out (without me even knowing it) and
they will see me as offline. . it sucks to have to keep
checking it by clicking on it just to find out that i've
been showing as "offline" for the past several minutes. .
someone please help

Here are some suggestions that may help:
Since you're using ZoneAlarm, try putting it into the "Medium" setting and then see if the
problem disappears.

If you're using a router, make sure you have the latest firmware from your router
manufacturer. As well, you might try setting your computers local IP into the routers DMZ
setting (see documentation on how to do this).

Finally, this can also happen due to a lack of bandwidth. If you have Kazaa, WinMX, GNUtella
or some other file sharing-type application or something else that takes considerable amounts
of bandwidth, you may want to shut it down and see if that helps the situation (even if
you're using a high speed connection, these applications can use most of the resources of
your connection).
