Ok, I have posted these before, and I'm going to put them
together to see if anyone can help me?
I have two problems that seemed to pop up at once.
I'm running XP Home on a Sony VAIO RX-550.
1) My computer will not shut down. If I select Standby,
it works fine, but Restart and Shutdown will not work. It
seems the only way to turn my machine off is to use the
power button and do a "hard" shutdown. This results in
scanning of the disk at bootup. Also doing updates and
such that ask you to "restart your computer now?" will
not shut it down either. Any help please?
2) System resore will not work. Before it used to go
through all the steps and at the very end would tell me
that it could not be restored and no changes were made.
It did not matter what restore point I chose. I took some
advice from an earlier post, and not it does nothing. I
click the resore button, and the computer does nothing. I
was hoping to use restore to fix the other problem, until
I realized that did not work.
Any help?
Thank you for any assistance!
