Sent this msg yesterday; however apparently MSFT's mail server was down
and I cannot locate the msg in the newsgroup, so repeat:
In winXP home, in Startup msmsgs.exe is unchecked. In Services,
Messenger is checked and is running.
I do not use this program and in an attempt to reduce memory usage,
wonder if this is the same program and if it can safely be unchecked in
Services -- or somehow changed to not run? (If it is one in the same,
presumably Services overrides Startup or it wouldn't be running.)

Hi, the service Messenger is not from Windows messenger..
Info for Messenger:
"Transmits net send and Alerter service messages between clients and
servers. This service is not related to Windows Messenger. If this service
is stopped, Alerter messages will not be transmitted. If this service is
disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start."
To remove windows messenger, go to add/remove components, uncheck messenger
and click next

Thanks. Since I am a single user without a server, it would appear
that running and using memory for service messenger is unnecessary?
