windows xp freezing

just bought windows xp upgrade from 98. it keeps on
freezing on me, anyone got any ideas on what to do to
stop this

Do a clean install rather than an update?:
Make sure that all your Hardware is compatable
Read the Error messages in Event viewer and post more information here
